MET Apprentice

“An apprenticeship opens up a multitude of possibilities and the skills you learn throughout are for life.”

Your role

I am a second year MET (mechanical, electrical and trim) apprentice.

What does your day as an apprentice at Activate Accident Repair look like?

My day-to-day consists of shadowing my mentor, one of the qualified technicians, or working independently on my own jobs. An apprenticeship is very learning based, so I spend most of my day being taught different parts of the trade and sharpening my skillset.

What do you enjoy about the apprenticeship?

I have enjoyed learning throughout my role, not just the skills I need to work, but also where I fit in the team at Activate Accident Repair. I have been able to adapt to my role as an apprentice in a supportive working environment whilst also being part of a wider community in the body shop.

Where would you like your career to develop at Activate Accident Repair?

I would like to further my apprenticeship and eventually become a qualified technician. I have recently passed my first-year exams and I now want to focus on excelling in the years I have ahead of me in my career.

What advice would you give to someone wanting to start an apprenticeship?

If you have an interest in starting the apprenticeship, just pursue it. An apprenticeship opens up a multitude of possibilities and the skills you learn throughout are for life. You get to learn and work at the same time, as well as being part of a team of likeminded people and technicians – it’s a great opportunity to dive headfirst into work life.
